There’s a special kind of energy in the studio right now — a mix of excitement, challenge, and a touch of creative chaos. I’ve been working on my largest painting to date, a 60 x 48-inch piece that’s testing not only the limits of my easel (and my Outback!) but also my compositional instincts.
This new work is being created for Face Love, a beautiful wellness studio in Old Town Fort Collins, owned by Lindsay Peterson. She recently moved into a new space with a stunningly large wall — one that’s calling for a piece filled with light, warmth, and tranquility. My goal is to create something that reflects the restorative experience Lindsay offers her clients through her work as an esthetician and massage therapist.
There’s always a bit of pressure when creating a commissioned piece — that hope that the finished work not only fills a space but speaks to the heart of the person it’s made for. I want this painting to breathe the same calm and renewal that Lindsay’s clients feel when they step into her studio.
If all goes as planned, I’ll have the piece finished and ready for her approval by Thanksgiving. Until then, my studio is alive with layers of color, shifting light, and that wonderful hum of anticipation that comes when a painting starts to find its voice.
It’s fun to share these moments behind the scenes — where creativity meets purpose, and where art becomes part of someone’s story.
